1) For the given in-plane states of stress, a) find the principle stresses (σmin,max), maximum/minimum shear stresses (τmin,max) and their corresponding orientations (θP and θS) using direct formulas. b) Draw Mohr’s circles for all of the stress states and indicate the location of the given stress state on the circle, the locations of principle and maximum shear stresses and corresponding angles.
2) For the state of plane stress shown, determine (a) the value of τxy for which the in-planeshearing stress parallel to the weld is zero, (b) the corresponding principal stresses.
3) For the general state of stress shown, determine the maximum shearing and principle stress
when (a) σz = 4 ksi, (b) σz = -4 ksi, (c) σz = 0 (draw the Mohr’s circle for each case)
4) Draw the Mohr’s circle of this general stress state: σx = –6, σy = 18, σz = –12, τxy = 9, τyz = 6, and τzx = –15 kpsi and then find the max shear and principle stresses.
