Week 5 Practical Exercises

Objectives

- Complete any unfinished exercises from Week 4

- Complete Exercise 1 below and save the solution to your WSUSCC PC account

in the practicals/pracSet1/week5 folder. Test and validate the pages.

Exercise 1

Using your completed Exercise 1 and Exercise 2 from week 4 practical as a starting

point, create a copy of the html5 & CSS file and save them as Exercise5.htm and

Exercise5.css in practicals/pracSet1/week5 folder. You will be writing JavaScript

and making some changes to the html and CSS as needed to solve the questions

below.

- Create a javascript file named formValidation.js. Link this file to

Exercise5.htm using the appropriate html tag in the head section of

the html file.

- Write javascript code in formValidation.js to perform the following functionality

for the form in Exercise5.htm. NOTE - All of the functionality must be

achieved via javascript NOT via HTML5 form validation attributes:

1. The Technician Application Form is not allowed to submit if there are any

errors in user input. The user input rules are as follows:

A. Personal Details:

? Surname and Given Names must be filled in and can only

contain alpha characters, space and hyphen.

? Field for 'street address' should be required.

? Only 4-digit number is allowed in 'postal/zip code' field

? You are required to incorporate the use of RegEx to validate the email

from the user entry. Comments are required to describe your design

rules of the RegEx.

? Format of DOB should be validated using RegEx. Comments are required to

describe your rules of RegEx.

? From each group of radio buttons, only the highest education attainment of

the applicant should be selected.

? At least two of the checkboxes from 'Specialized areas' should be selected.

? Selection of option from 'country' is mandatory

B. When errors occur in user input the user must be alerted to these errors through

appropriate inline messages (not alert boxes). You will want to add some

appropriate CSS rules to accommodate for the display of these inline messages

with a different colour from default setting.
