For this homework assignment, you will need to answer each of the following questions. Links to data files will be provided for

each question (unless otherwise specified). Assume that all factors and treatments are fixed effects and that measurement

units are properly sampled from an appropriate population.

Problem 1

(Modification of Exercise 3.1 in Oehlert)

Researchers use a lottery to assign one of four different treatments to individual rats. After the study period, researchers

then measured the rat’s total weight and liver weight. What was the impact of the diets on the liver weight expressed as a

percentage of total body weight?

Problem 3

Researchers compared three preservatives and a null treatment in terms of their ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria.

Researchers treated petri dishes with one of the preservatives or a neutral chemical and each dishes. After 48 hours, the

researchers recorded the bacterial counts in colony forming units (CFUs).
