Web Design – Final Assignment, a fully functioning Wordpress website

You must complete a fully finished website in WordPress, hosted on GMIT’s server account with

A2 Hosting, as set up in class. It should meet the following criteria.

The structure of the website is based on the WordPress Twenty Seventeen Theme, customised to

your own design of colours, fonts, etc. You should use a Child Theme, CSS and other amended pages

and templates to carry out the customisation. (15)

The site should reflect your design, with a co-ordinated colour scheme and custom fonts to

personalise the site and create a corporate look and feel. Colour to be applied in particular to the

Menu/Navigation area and to the Footer of the site.

I will expect to have the following elements incorporated into your site:-

The Home Page should have 3-4 (or more) pages stacked, so that they will work well on

mobiles, allowing users to ‘push’ the page down with their fingers. This enables users to

view content without having to open a Menu to access the most important information.

Each ‘stacked page’ should have an appropriate Featured Image (10)

There should be 3-5 other content pages, which are not stacked. These should be accessible

through the top menu. E.g. Contact, Gallery, Latest News, etc. (5)

The Footer of the site to be modified to provide amended social links to real pages. The

design and copyright information (site info) should also be inserted/amended to reflect the

designer of the site and owner of copyright. Default Widgets to be amended to show at least

two customised Widgets in the footer. (10)

Your posts page (e.g. latest News) should only show appropriate widgets on the side bar on

the right-hand side of the page. (5)

While your side should be based on the 2-column format (Page Title on the left, content on

the right).please include at least one full width page, achieved by creating a Full Width Page

Template in your child theme (10)

Your website should include at least three additional Plugins, to include a Contact Form with

Recatchpa, an SEO plugin and an Images Gallery. Due attention should be paid to the

reliability/popularity of these Plugins. The Contact Form should be fully functioning, and I

will check to see that an email is generated and received when the form is completed. (15)

Images: close attention to be paid to the quality/appropriateness/size of images used on the

site. I will expect to see good quality Stock images used. (5)

I will expect two properly functioning menus on the site – Top Menu and Social Media Menu

in the Footer (5)

Marks will be awarded for the overall design and look of your site, with a professional looking

website being expected and rewarded. Please use stock images - e.g. from pexels.com (20)
